If you're new to hookah, we recommend starting with Mint or Double Apple — they're crowd-pleasers and give you that authentic session feel.
Quick-light charcoal lights faster but contains chemicals that can affect flavor. Coconut charcoal (also called natural charcoal) burns cleaner, produces less smoke, and delivers purer flavor. For the best experience, we recommend coconut charcoal. If you're in a hurry, quick-light works in a pinch. We stock both types at Karma Smoke Shop.
To start, you need: a hookah pipe, bowl, hose, and base. You'll also need charcoal, shisha tobacco, and foil or a heat management system. For beginners, we recommend our starter kits which include everything you need to begin your first session. Our staff can walk you through setup and help you pick the right components.
Rinse the base with warm water after each session. Use a brush to clean the stem interior weekly. Wash the bowl and hose periodically — hoses should be hung to dry completely. Deep clean every few weeks with lemon water or a specialized hookah cleaning solution. A well-maintained hookah delivers better flavor and lasts longer.
Store charcoal in a cool, dry place in an airtight container. Moisture causes charcoal to crack and burn unevenly. Keep it away from humidity sources like sinks or windows. Proper storage extends the life of your charcoal and ensures consistent heat for your sessions.
